Vacancy: AHLU is Seeking New Trustees.

AHLU is Seeking New Trustees

AHLU is entering an exciting phase of growth, and we are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with three new members who bring specialist expertise, fresh perspectives, and a shared passion for widening access to art history. Working alongside the Chair, CEO, and fellow trustees, you will help shape our strategy, strengthen our governance, and support our continued impact for young people across the UK.

Our small Board currently comprises six dedicated individuals, between them holding broad experience across several sectors and disciplines. After a very successful year, and with plans for growth, we are looking to supplement the Board with three further talented appointments:

  • Trustee – Art History Education in State Schools Specialist to ensure our courses meet the needs of state school students and educators, and to support safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Trustee – Fundraising and Philanthropy Specialist to support our team in diversifying and growing income.
  • Trustee – Museum and Gallery Sector Specialist to inform and strengthen our ties to the cultural sector, and expansion of our programme.

Applications are now open and will be considered as they arrive. The closing date is Friday 4th December 2026.

For full details of the roles and instructions on how to apply, please access the job pack here.

Art History is under threat

We believe art history should be for everyone, however fewer than 1% of state supported secondary schools offer Art History A Level. As a result, there is a lack of diversity in the arts sector and an increasing skills shortage. We are the only charity offering formal Art History teaching to school-aged students from all backgrounds. Your financial support will ensure that everyone has an opportunity to study art history: together we can transform the future of the arts.
